The Wessex Actors Company have selected a romantic eco-comedy for their 10th anniversary tour of the Wessex region. "Not in my Back-Yard" is by Gloucestershire playwright Frank Hatt, a one-time Royal Court writer. It tours the region from mid April to early May, and again in the middle of July.

A by-pass through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty... an eco-house in a conservation area... wind turbines... canal restoration... yet another supermarket.

The stuff of local newspaper headlines comes alive on stage as Daisy, Brian, Charlie and Anthony, get embroiled in skirmishes, alliances, sit-ins, passion, laughter and blossoming romance.

In spite of conflicting values and concerns, four disparate people hope to find true love and a purpose in life, whilst confronting the bulldozers and standing up to insensitive authority. But, sadly, when the gloves are off and the cards are on the table, they find that their personal environmental agendas are just a little at odds with those of the others. Can personal attraction survive when ideals are challenged?

"Not in my Back Yard" is a very entertaining romantic comedy with a very broad appeal, lively original music and plenty of action.

The tour, still subject to finalisation, is in two halves - April/May and July (+ 1 performance in June):

"Not in My Back-Yard" had a small community tour in Gloucestershire a few years ago and received an excellent response:

"Hilarious eco-play rings true to life. This truly great play is a wonderfully wry look at the culture of protest that abounds in our valleys, and is very, very funny... This play is hilarious on so many levels... as clever, fast, funny and wry as you're likely to see. It surprises you with delight."

"Fun, fast-moving and quick-witted ... and rewarded with rapturous applause."

The Wessex Actors Company were formed in 1993 to provide live professional theatre to five counties in the south-west. It has a unique focus on the culture and talents of the south-west. This April marks its tenth anniversary. The Company is a registered charity.

Its recent tours have been of "A Christmas Carol" and "Dead Woman's Ditch" (the true story of a Somerset crime of passion from 1789). Both were tremendously successful tours.
